Waffles made from scratch, a mix (such as Krusteaz), or pre-made frozen varieties, can be simple for kids to make, easy to clean, and delicious to eat! Kids can creative with toppings; everything from whipped cream to fresh fruit can add a punch of flavor and dazzle to this bready breakfast food.
Here is a waffle recipe using your favorite pre-made mix, and fruit compote.
This recipe makes 12 – 4 inch waffles., and can be adjusted according to the directions on the package.
Start by heating the waffle iron. Depending on the age and culinary experience of your child, there should be an adult to oversee.
Mix 2-cups waffle or pancake mix, 1 ½ cups cold water, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a pourable bowl. Mix should be lumpy.
If using a plain mix, add ingredients like chocolate chips, dried fruit, berries, nuts, etc., to enhance the flavors.
Pour mix onto preheated and lightly greased waffle iron (cooking oil spray works great for this).
Cook until steaming stops, about 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
Take 1 can whole cranberries (drained), 1 can cherry pie filling (drained), 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, ¼ cup orange juice, ¼ cup honey or maple syrup, and if desired - a dash of cinnamon, add all ingredients in a saucepan and heat through on warm heat.
This recipe can be altered to your liking! Try using canned peaches or strawberry pie filling, or whatever combination you’d like.
