If you are staying here in the Treasure Valley this week for Spring Break, and you need something fun to do with the kids... I have some local options for you from the Idaho Department of Tourism.
The World Center for Birds of Prey has a new outdoor exhibit! It's one of only three locations outside California where visitors can see the California Condor up close. Also, a traveling photo exhibit called Arctic Wings will be on display there until late July. www.peregrinefund.org
How about taking the kids to the Basque Museum and Cultural Center on the Basque Block in downtown Boise? You can teach them about the robust heritage and culture of the Basque people here in our state. There's a new exhibit too. It's called "Hidden in Plain Sight: The Basques" - it has also been on display at Ellis Island's museum. www.basquemuseum.com
You can take a tour of the Old Idaho Penitentiary. Tour the cells, and even get a look at solitary confinement! It's one of only four old prisons still open for tours. history.idaho.gov/oldpen.html
The Idaho Botanical Garden is another great spot. There's a Children's Adventure Garden, and other beautiful gardens to visit. idahobotanicalgarden.org/index.cfm
How about going to the MK Nature Center? You can walk along a stream and get a fish view of the world - plus learn about Idaho plants and wildlife. fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/education/mknc/
The Discovery Center of Idaho is another great place to go. Your kids will love all the activities, and exploring science. They can blow gigantic bubbles there at the bubble wall! scidaho.org/index.php
