Just in time for Valentine's Day - the 3rd grade class at Owyhee Elementary in Nampa made homemade Valentines for all of our veterans at the Idaho State Veterans Home. It's all a part of Angel Cakes Charity's "Valentines for Veterans" project. This is the second year in a row they have done this!
The volunteer "Angel Bakers" baked dozens of heart shaped sugar cookies - and decorated them. Then, they wrapped and attached the cookies to the kids' homemade valentine cards. They delivered them to the Idaho State Veteran's Home over the weekend - and it was really heartwarming for everyone involved. Many of our veterans are forgotten, and this delivery helped make sure they know just how appreciated they are. Take a look:
If you haven't heard of Angel Cakes Charity - it's a pretty incredible local non-profit organization. Many children in Idaho don't get a cake to celebrate their birthday. Some of these kids are in foster care, some are in shelters, and some are homeless. Some are even staying at Ronald McDonald House to get medical care at our local hospitals.
Since birthdays are such a huge event, Angel Cakes Charity volunteers make sure these kids get a special birthday cake made with love. The organization also bakes cakes for Hospice patients, and now they are a part of Valentines for Veterans too!
Angel Cakes is always looking for more Angel Bakers, if you love to bake and you have the time to give:
