Do you use the R-word in everyday conversation? The word "retard", or "retarded"? If you do, you may want to sign a pledge today to stop. Why? The answer is really pretty simple. It's hurtful to people with intellectual disabilities. Many people do it without even thinking, it's just become a part of American slang. There is a campaign to end that. It's called "R-Word, Spread the Word to End the Word".
Today , Americans are being asked to sign a pledge to stop using the R-word. For many of us, it takes knowing and loving someone with intellectual disabilities to realize how hurtful the word really is. Hopefully, that will change.
