If you are an NFL football fan, you most likely saw him this week on the field at the season opener on Wednesday night. Local school teacher Jim Core was the referee for the Cowboys versus Giants game! He got this incredible shot at the big time because of the contract dispute between the NFL and league referees. You may have heard the NFL announcers talking about him during the game. They mentioned he is from Boise, and works as a school teacher.
Right now, Core works at Sawtooth Middle School as the activities director and as 8th grade geography teacher. He's been a ref for college football, and for some arena football games too - but working an NFL game is the BIG TIME!
It looks like NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was happy with Core's performance on the field:
"I think our officials did a more than adequate job last night and I think that we've proven that we can train them and get them up to NFL standards" - Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner
Core's NFL duties aren't over yet. We've learned he'll be the referee for the Monday Night Football match-up between the Chargers and the Raiders! Go Jim! Keep making us proud!
