Did you watch The Oscars last night?
You may not know this, but local filmmaker Michael Hoffman's movie was nominated twice!

Michael Hoffman
"The Last Station" was written and directed by Hoffman - and two actors in the movie were honored with nominations. Christopher Plummer for "Best Supporting Actor", and Helen Mirren for "Best Actress". Last night, they didn't take home the coveted Oscar, but as any actor will tell you - being nominated is a prize in itself!

"The Last Station" had its premiere screening at The Egyptian Theater in Boise last month. In case you're wondering, it's about the last days of Leo Tolstoy.

Hoffman, Mirren, and Plummer
Hoffman is a big time Hollywood director now, but his roots started right here in Idaho. He grew up in Payette. He went to Boise State, and while there - he was elected Student Body President too. He's also one of the co-founders of The Idaho Shakespeare Festival.
You've most likely seen one of Hoffman's movies. Movies with big Hollywood starts like "Soapdish", "Restoration", and "One Fine Day". Also, if you're a BSU Bronco fan - you know he worked on "Out of the Blue" too. It's a documentary film about Boise State's road to the Fiesta Bowl win in 2007.
(If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it!)

Hoffman has lived all over the place: London, Berlin, Italy - but the only home he owns is in Boise. He lives here with his wife and three kids, and is building his legacy right here in the Treasure Valley.
"At a certain point i decided to come back and be a part of the community, and live somewhere where I could help make a difference." - Michael Hoffman
P.S. Michael Hoffman's teenage son - Atticus Hoffman - was honored recently by Channel 7 as a 7's Hero for starting a Soccer Camp for refugees in our community. He's an up and coming star himself, with a huge heart!
