Have you heard of Gridiron Dreams Football Academy? It's an amazing local football camp for young players ages 7 to 18. This summer, it will be held June 3rd and 4th at Bishop Kelly High School. Former BSU football stars Alex Guerrero and Jerard Rabb came up with the idea for the camp. Registration is going on now... check out the website!

I asked Alex Guerrero some questions about the camp, and why he put it together:

MAGGIE: You are well known for being a Boise State star, what are you up to now?

Aside from working on GDFA youth football camp, I am currently working part time at Idaho Behavioral Health, and have recently found myself doing some motivational speaking. I just booked my first headlining event, which I am super pumped about!

MAGGIE: How did you come up with Gridiron Dreams Football Academy?

ALEX GUERRERO: I have always dreamed of giving back to the community after all the great things the city of Boise had blessed me with throughout my career at BSU. So when the opportunity came up, my good friend Jerard Rabb and I put our heads together and came up with a unique youth football camp "For the Players by the Players". We founded the camp in the spring of 2009 and in 3 months launched our first camp in the summer of 2009. This will be our 3rd consecutive year and I am positive this will be our best year yet!

MAGGIE: What happens at camp?

ALEX GUERRERO: This is a unique youth football fundamentals camp. Our camp gives former Boise State athletes a chance to relay the coaching they have received over the years that led them to Boise State University, and even to the NFL and other professional leagues. We find that our loose and fun style of coaching impacts our athletes, they can relate to us after watching most of us on the "blue". They realize the hard work it took for us to reach our goals, hence the name of our camp "Gridiron Dreams".

MAGGIE: You bring in a lot of well known players, tell us who will be there this summer?

ALEX GUERRERO: The people that are taking time out of their schedules to come out to our camp will blow people away. Headlining our staff of mentors, we have Super Bowl Champions Daryn Colledge and Korey Hall. We also have the likes of Ryan Clady (Denver Broncos), Derek Schouman (St. Louis Rams) Legedu Naanee (San Diego Chargers) Gerald Alexander (Carolina Panther) Cody Pickett (Former San Fransisco 49er) Bart Hendricks (former San Diego Charger and BSU Hall of Fame) Vinny Perretta (Former Minnesota Viking) Drisan James (former Chicago Bear and Hamilton Tiger cat) Chris O'Neill (former Oakland Raider) Jerard Rabb (former Dallas Cowboy and San Fran. 49er) and of course myself Alex Guerrero (former Minnesota Viking and Arizona Rattler)

Those our just our headliners, we will have many more former BSU athletes!

Our 2011 Rookie Class includes:
Austin Pettis
Jeron Johnson
Ryan Winterswyk
Tommy Gallarda
Derrell Acery
Mike Coughlin

MAGGIE: Why is this so cool?

ALEX GUERRERO: At Gridiron Dreams Football Academy our camp participants will get to learn from athletes that have reached the highest level of football.

MAGGIE: For kids who can't afford it, are scholarships available?

ALEX GUERRERO: Absolutely!! We don't anyone to miss out on a chance to come out to this years camp! please contact me at:
