Today is Cinco de Mayo!
If you're not familiar with why this day is celebrated, here's a quick lesson for you...
To understand, we have to go way back to the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when the Mexican army overcame seemingly incredible odds to defeat invading French forces from conquering the state of Puebla. The victory remains a cause for commemoration nearly 150 years later!
We celebrated on "Today's Morning News" with a little help from our fabulous director Chuck. He created these cartoon sombreros just for the occasion - and put them on our heads every now and then during the newscast:
Cinco de Mayo gets plenty of attention here in the U.S. not just from Mexican-Americans, but also from anybody interested in celebrating culture and heritage.
If you're 21 and over...
There's a Downtown Boise Tequila Crawl happening tonight. You can sample different tequilas at a number of downtown restaurants and bars.
The fun starts at 4:00pm
(You must be 21 years old)
