A special event called "Be the Match" is being held tonight. It's being organized for Sheri Hirai of Boise. She has has leukemia, and she needs life saving bone marrow. She has already had one failed transplant from her sister, and the need to find her the right match is even more critical now.
"Be The Match", is tonight 4:30-8:30pm at the Idaho Athletic Club on Maple Grove in Boise. It's a simple mouth swab test. To join the registry - you need to be between the ages of 18 and 60, and be willing to help any patient in need. You could be called upon to save a life!
To join, all you need is to:
• Be between the ages of 18 and 60
• Be willing to help any patient in need
• Meet health requirements
These conditions would prevent you from joining the registry:
HIV or risk for HIV
Hepatitis or risk for hepatitis
Most forms of heart disease or cancer
Chronic lung disease
Diabetes requiring insulin or diabetes-related health issues
Diseases that affect blood clotting or bleeding
Recent back surgery, or severe or ongoing back problems
Autoimmune disorders such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis
Being an organ or marrow transplant recipient
Significant obesity
Current sleep apnea
