This is an interesting GEM of a story for you today...
This Emerald is 840 pounds!
Two Eagle, Idaho men are in a battle over who owns this $400 MILLION DOLLAR emerald. It was found in Brazil in 2001, and then reported missing! The giant stone was eventually traced to two Eagle businessmen who were keeping it in a Las Vegas storage unit. They claim it's theirs -- given to them as collateral. Three California gem traders also say the rock is theirs. So, the two Idahoans turned the giant gem over to Los Angeles County - and the county is holding it while this whole mess is sorted out! Get this - it will now be up to a judge to decide. When I look at it, all I can think is... can you imagine how many rings, necklaces, bracelets you can make out of that thing? I'll take one! :) (Of course...)
Great news about Cody Barden - the Eagle High School student who was hit by a car driven by another student.
Barden was in a coma for two weeks with severe head injuries. We talked to his mom yesterday - and she says he still doesn't remember what happened. He has a lot of rehab and surgeries ahead... but his family and classmates are so happy he is on the mend!
Today I'm heading to Grace Jordan Elementary - to speak to a group of young girls who are part of a special Soroptimist program called ATAP. It stands for "All Things Are Possible!"
ATAP is a series of self-esteem workshops for 6th grade girls in the Boise Public School system. It designed to promote self-esteem! We talk about the importance of education, goal setting and community service. The girls seem to really like it, and they also get to come on a tour here at Channel 7 to see where I work and what I do... which is fun for all of us here at KTVB. We love visitors!
One more thing... do you say CHIN-den or SHIN-den?
There's a cool segment on KTVB.com by our Digital Media Producer Don Day called "I Wonder?".... check it out! There is a big debate over the CORRECT pronunciation... (I was happy to find out - the way I say it, is the right way)
Thanks for clearing that up for all of us DON!
