This is a real shocker to me

While this is an event where people are obviously doing great things for others, I am so saddened as to why we have this problem.

The Nampa School District is welcoming volunteers tomorrow (Wed. August 18th) to its warehouse to prepare backpacks of school supplies, personal items, books and food for more than 1,000 Nampa area elementary and middle school students(some are in the Vallivue School District) who are homeless.

Did you read that last word...these kids are HOMELESS.

I checked with Allison Westfall of the Nampa School District and she says last year the district ended the year with 757 identified homeless students within the Nampa School District.

My heart goes out to these kids, who have to go to school each day pretending they have a place to live.

Lets thank the Feed the Children, an international, nonprofit relief organization who is helping with this drive. I'm sure there are others who should receive kudo's too.

But, what can we do to help these kids? Allison says you can donate school supplies at the Nampa School District Headquarters at 619 S. Canyon St.

But, if there is more that you can do, give this lady a call. Peggy Miller will hook you up with the needs in the district. Her number is (208) 468-4600.
