I learned a really easy and relaxing breathing technique in yoga the other week and it's something I'd like to pass onto you.
Call it the 7 count!
You breath in for five seconds, hold your breath for two seconds and then exhale for another seven seconds.
A friend of mine is going through quite a bit of chemotherapy and she told me about how her heart was beginning to race from the treatment. I mentioned this breathing technique which she had already heard of, but wasn't practicing.
She tried it and here's part of her email to me.
"I am SOOOOO GLAD you reminded me of the breathing technique. After 2 weeks of having extreme numbers on my stress level and my heart rate, I did the breathing technique and for the first time my stress level is 8% which is low and my heart beats were in the 70's."
So next time you need to calm a racing heart, quiet a stressful day or just try to fall asleep...breathe through the 7 count and see if it works for you.
