The City of Boise is trying to identify owners of burial plots at Morris Hill Cemetery on Latah Street.

The reason: unclaimed plots that are deemed abandoned, then re-claimed by the City can be made available for the public to purchase.

For months, city staff members have been searching hand-written ledgers and cemetery records in order to identify and contact the owners.

A total of 543 lots have been identified as eligible for “reconveyance,” according to Ken Reeves, Park Division Manager. That means they are part of the reconveyance process, where eventually unclaimed plots can go up for sale.

Morris Hill Cemetery facts:

It's one of the oldest cemeteries in the Treasure Valley.

It was created in 1882.

There are currently 41,797 lots in the cemetery.
