Looking to the week ahead and this is one of my favorite weeks in Idaho. It's time for the Snake River Stampede.
I'll never forget the first year I covered it as a cub reporter...probably early 80s and they used to have a steak dinner on media night.
Well, I sat down that evening at a picnic bench, not really knowing anyone. Then this red-headed gal nicely plopped down beside me and began to chat. She was electrifying, couldn't look at her without focusing in on her short red hair. Guess who she was? Reba McEntire!!
She was the main performer that night and she was just so happy to be in Nampa and excited to perform at the rodeo. She was good, so good that by the next year Reba had been selected Country Singer of the Year.
This year, I'll be back at the Stampede on Wednesday night to help raise money to battle breast cancer. I hope you'll join me in wearing pink like the cowboys that night and doing what we can to eradicate the disease. Too bad we can't call Reba and tell her about our cause. She'd probably even dye that beautiful red hair pink to help us make our point.
See you at the Stampede!
