Please pass this information onto anyone who has a hungry child in their house.
I did an extended interview with two WIC representatives today and they said because of the unemployment situation there are more people than ever who qualify for assistance.
WIC gives out food. It offers milk, cheese, eggs, and cereal, and now provides whole grain breads, tortillas, fresh fruits and vegetables.
WIC is not only for the very low income. You are eligible for WIC if you are:
1) An Idaho resident
2) Are one of the following:
· Pregnant
· Breastfeeding a baby under one year of age
· Just gave birth to a baby
· Have an infant or child under the age of 5
3) Have a nutritional need
4) Meet the income guidelines
Number of Maximum Gross Household Income
Household
Members Per Month Per Year
1 $1,670 $20,036
2 $2,247 $26,955
3 $2,823 $33,874
4 $3,400 $40,793
5 $3,976 $47,712
6 $4,553 $54,631
For each additional individual, add $577/month or $6,919/year. One pregnant woman counts as two household members.
WIC also wants me to pass on that grandparents or other relatives who have custody of children under age 5 and also stay-at-home dads with young children can apply for WIC.
Call your local public health office and ask for WIC or call the Idaho Careline at 211 or 1-800-926-2588.
Again, please pass this information onto anyone who needs it.
