I wanted to pass on some helpful tips about getting the biggest "bang" for your health care bucks.
This week on the News at Noon we talked with Beth Gray, a nurse practitioner from St. Luke’s.
She shared some tips on how to become a better medical consumer.
- Know your numbers: understand key numbers such as blood pressure, body mass index, and fasting blood glucose.
- Medications— brand vs. generic. before you leave the office, ask your doctor if you can have a generic over a brand medication in order to save money.
However, the best tip from Beth lies in these three questions that she says you must have answered before you leave your office visit:
• What is my main problem?
• What do I need to do?
• Why is it important for me to do this?
Write down the answers so you can refer back to them at home.
I hope this helps you out.
