BOISE -- Boise State Bronco head coach Chris Petersen shared strong opinions about the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) during a scheduled news conference Monday.  Petersen, who is known for staying tight-lipped on his views on just about everything, had some harsh criticism for the current post-season system.

"I've got to tell you, I'm really tired of the BCS.  Even the name," said Coach Pete.

When asked about it further he said he knows he isn't alone in feeling that way, "I think everybody is just very tired of the BCS, I think that's the bottom line.  Everybody's frustrated, nobody really knows what to do anymore.  It doesn't make much sense to anybody.  I don't think anyone is happy anywhere.  They say it's to pick the one and two best teams and there's even controversy on that.  The whole thing needs to be changed, there's no question about it."

Going into this last weekend, it appeared that Boise State had a slim chance of making it to a big-money BCS bowl game.  Houston's loss Saturday to Southern Mississippi was a key upset, giving Bronco Nation hope there might be a chance at a BCS bowl game.  But on Sunday, the polls did not work in the Broncos' favor.

When it comes to the voting, Coach Pete said it doesn't make any sense.

"I haven't seen any of the voting.  I know how I voted and I know what I'm trying to do, is make the best case for Boise State to get in there, so you know, I probably shouldn't even be a voter," explained Coach Pete.  "I mean, the whole thing just doesn't make sense.  I don't know who it makes sense to.  I haven't heard anyone going, 'You know, this is pretty good,' Everyone goes, 'This is pretty bad.'"

When asked what his level of hope was for the Broncos to be selected for a BCS bowl game before the selection announcement was made, Coach Pete answered, "Very low.  You know how it goes.  I'm not the only one who feels that way, there are all kinds of teams that could have made a case.  Even teams that couldn't make a case were probably saying the same thing.  How did this come about?"

Even though the team will not be going to one of the top-tier bowl games, Petersen said he and the team are very excited about playing in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas for a second time.

"I think this is a great bowl for us, I really do.  I think it's a good location and I'm really hopeful Bronco Nation shows up.  I think it's one of the reasons they wanted us to go there," said Petersen.  "Like I said, we enjoyed it last year, the players did.  I think Arizona State is a really good opponent for us and I think there will be a lot of excitement and energy in that game."

In true Coach Pete fashion, he is worrying about the task at hand, "We're going to worry about the things we can control.  We are extremely excited to go play in this bowl game, without a doubt.  We better have a chip on our shoulder or we'll get beat.  We need to go play our best, practice our best, and be excited about this and not be too distracted by the great location we're going to.  It's all the same stuff."
