BOISE – The Boise State Broncos are headed back to Las Vegas.
It was officially announced Sunday that the Broncos will face off against Arizona State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.
The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada at Sam Boyd Stadium on December 22. Kick off is at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
"We are ecstatic to offer this matchup to help celebrate our historic 20th year," said MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Executive Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy. "Boise State fans have shown they love Las Vegas as not only did they help us mark our sixth consecutive sellout a year ago, but they also came down in droves for the Broncos' game vs. UNLV earlier this season. It's also exciting to be the site of the final collegiate game for the sport's winningest quarterback, Kellen Moore."
The Broncos finished at number 7 in the Bowl Championship Series Standings.
The Arizona Sun Devils are coached by Dennis Erickson, a former University of Idaho coach. He led the team to a 6-6 record this year.
The Broncos and the Sun Devils have met just once before. That happened in 1996 in Tempe, Arizona. Arizona State won that game 56-7.
This will be the second visit to the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas for the Broncos. Last year, they defeated Utah on December 22 with a 26-3 final score.
The game marks the 10th consecutive season the Broncos have been invited to appear in a bowl game.
The Bronco Class of 2011 will be looking to use a victory in the bowl to break the school record with 50 wins. They tied the school record with the Class of 2009 with their win Saturday over New Mexico.
"We are excited about returning to the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas and to again face a tough opponent like Arizona State," said Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen. "We had a great bowl experience last year and I know the hospitality for our team and fans will again be outstanding. This senior class is excited about playing in another bowl and they will work hard in getting the team ready for the game."
