BOISE -- Boise State senior quarteback Joe Southwick was named to the Manning Award watch list on Friday.
Southwick - who was recently named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list - threw for 2,730 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions during his junior campaign in 2012. He was at his best over the final four games of the season. He tossed nine touchdowns, zero interceptions and completed 69.9 percent of his passes as Boise State went 4-0.
Southwick is one of five quartebacks from the Mountain West to be honored. Fresno State senior Derek Carr, Nevada junior Cody Fajardo, San Jose State senior David Fales and Wyoming junior Brett Smith are also on the preseason watch list.
The Manning Award is the only college football quarterback award that includes postseason performances. The winner is selected by a panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings.
