NFL Draft Day Projection: 2nd-3rd Round
Doug Martin's vault has skyrocketed since the end of his senior season at Boise State. After rushing for a career-high 1,299 yard last fall, Martin went to the Senior Bowl and Mobile, Alabama in January and wowed NFL scouts with his speed, agility and versatility.
At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month, he stole the show once again when he weighed in at 223-pounds, ran a 4.55 40-yard time and put up 28 reps at 225-pounds on the bench press.
Boise State's Pro Day will be yet another chance for Martin to show NFL scouts that he is the total package - one that may even be worth drafting in the later portion of the first round.
While it would have been fun to see Doug put on a show one more time, he did the wise thing and went conservative. In a classic nothing to gain, everything to lose situation, Doug stuck with the stellar numbers he put up at the NFL Combine. Opting to only run routes for Kellen and take part in a few position drills, Doug cruised through the final step of the evaluating process.
If scouts take anything away from his Pro Day perforamce though, it will be he is a versatile runningback that can catch. Doug caught every single pass throw his way, including some really nice over-the-shoulders grabs. He also split-out of few times and lined up as a wide receiver, futher demonstrating that NFL offensive coordinators can get creative with how they use him.
