BOISE -- Spring practice is underway for the Broncos and the question remains - who will be the quarterback to replace Kellen Moore?
Joe Southwick, Grant Hedrick, Jimmy Laughrea and true freshman Nick Patti, who is already in camp, will get their shot.
Head football coach Chris Petersen called on us to set our alarm clocks a little early this year. At 8:45 Monday morning inside the Caven-Williams Sports Complex, the Boise State football team kicked off the first of 15 spring practices.
This was our initial chance to see a few new faces for the first time in a Bronco uniform, including freshman quarterback Nick Patti.
Wearing the number 8, Patti, along with junior Joe Southwick, sophomore Grant Hedrick and freshman Jimmy Laughrea, will all battle out this spring to try and win that starting quarterback position vacated by record-setting signal-caller Kellen Moore.
While it's too early to tell who has the lead in Coach Pete's mind, all four seemed to look pretty good today.
Quarterbacks are not allowed to speak to the media, so we won't hear from any of them over the course of the next month. Coach Pete has made all four signal-callers off limits to the media.
Also in attendance for the first time, new quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith, defensive secondary coach Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Andy Avalos.
In addition to all the turnover in the coaching staff, Boise State must find a way to replace 21 seniors who are no longer with the team.
