BOISE -- Bronco head coach Chris Petersen was UCLA's first choice to fill the vacancy Rick Neuheisel left when he was fired.  However, a source told ESPN the school was informed that Coach Pete will not be a candidate.

UCLA's Rick Neuheisel was fired Monday.

Mark Coyle, Boise State's new athletic director, said in his introductory speech Thursday that keeping Coach Pete at Boise State was one of his top priorities.

"My number one goal is to keep Chris Petersen at Boise State University," Coyle said.  "No pressure coach (laughs).  He's raised the bar.  I look forward to working closely with him in that."

In a news conference Thursday, BSU President Dr. Bob Kustra announced Coyle was stepping in as the new athletic director.  Coach Pete was present for the announcement, along with a number of other coaches.
