BOISE -- For the first time since 2005, the Boise State football team has started the season with a 2-and-2 record.  The Broncos are coming off a disappointing 41-40 loss at Fresno State on Friday night.  But head coach Chris Petersen is confident that his team will continue to improve as the season goes on.

“It's not any one thing, it's just a lot of little things,” Petersen said at his weekly press conference.  “It starts with personnel and experience.  They're good guys, they'll fight hard, we'll improve.”

Petersen also pointed out that Boise State’s most recent loss had come to a talented team with plenty of playmakers.

“Fresno State is a good team," Petersen said. "That's the thing that everybody wants to blow right by. When you play a good team, you can't make too many errors. And we made way too many.  We'll get better.  There's no question we'll build on it. I mean, we've got a lot of young guys.”

One concern on the minds of many Bronco fans is the status of senior quarterback Joe Southwick.

In the second quarter of Friday’s game, Southwick seemed to have suffered a shoulder injury and sat out three plays. Following the game, he told reporters that the shoulder bothered him for the rest of the game.

Petersen addressed the topic briefly, but said he didn’t want to divulge too much information.

“He's fine," Petersen said. "Southern Miss is going to sit there and watch every single word I’m saying.  On down the line.  So I don’t comment on that.  He's not out long term, so we're good to go.”

The Broncos will host Southern Miss on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. at Bronco Stadium.
