BOISE -- The Boise State offense got the best of the defense with a 28-19 victory in the Blue and Orange Spring Game on Saturday.

Despite battling wind-gust of up to 30 miles per hour, quarterback Joe Southwick looked crisp competing 12-of-20 pass attempts for 113 yards.

The senior-to-be led the offense to a touchdown right before halftime. Operating in the two-minute drill, he connected with tight end Kyle Sosnowski on a diving 17-yard grab before hitting Geraldo Boldewijn with a picture-perfect throw along the sideline of the endzone.

Runningback Jay Ajayi might have had the most impressive scrimmage though. With the sophomore-to-be getting his first crack at the starting roll, he carried the ball 11 times for 69 yards.

On the offense’s first scoring drive of the game, Ajayi ran for 42 yards. He had an 18-yard burst that got Boise State in the redzone, then, two carries later, he found the endzone.

On defense the biggest play of the day came from cornerback Donte Deayon. With the Broncos needing two replace both of their starting cornerbacks this season, the sophomore-to-be jump a hitch route and returned it for a touchdown.

As a result of their performance, the offense rewarded with teriyaki bowls and showers after the game.

Boise State will have one last practice on Monday before their spring schedule wraps up.
