BOISE -- Chris Petersen is heading to Washington and now Boise State officials are wondering what next?

Petersen accepted the head coaching job with the Huskies on Friday, leaving a program he elevated from a little small-conference winner to a legitimate contender to play in college football's marquee bowl games.

Boise State athletic director Mark Coyle now has a big decision to make: How to fill the shoes of a coach who won more games than any other FBS coach the last eight years.

Coyle thanked Petersen on Friday and announced the start of a national search for a replacement.

Petersen met one last time with coaches and players Friday. University officials said he will not coach the Broncos in their upcoming bowl game.

Coyle named assistant Bob Gregory as interim coach.
