BOISE -- Balloonists made a spectacular display for hundreds of spectators in Ann Morrison Park on day two of the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic. The showing came despite another day of touch-and-go weather including some rain and high winds at elevation.

KTVB Meteorologists Larry Gebert and Jim Duthie were on site before dawn testing wind speeds and preparing what turned out to be a cautionary outlook for pilots. The forecast: "We're not going anywhere until the winds go down, unfortunately, ' said Spirit of Boise's Event Producer and Chief Pilot Scott Spencer.

At 7:15 a.m a helium test balloon revealed winds aloft had not died down and Spencer made the call for a "blue field," meaning pilots were cleared to inflate their balloons, but untethered flights would not take place.

Despite the call, spectators were rewarded with a brilliant display of balloons anyway. Smiles and cameras came out as the sun crested the Boise Front while balloons unfurled and inflated all over the park.

The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic continues in Ann Morrison Park tomorrow through Sunday. Balloons will launch from the park each morning, weather permitting, plus a night-glow and concert Friday night. You can catch KTVB's coverage of the events Friday morning from 5:00am to 7:00am, Friday night at 10:00pm and Saturday morning from 7:00am to 10:00am.
