A warm but potentially unsettled Wednesday ahead of a late-week cooldown

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — Another unusually warm spring day expected across SW Idaho on Wednesday, though the chance of showers and stray thunderstorms increases too as moisture and instability will be on the rise ahead of a pair of impending cold fronts. Temperatures in the Boise area will climb into the mid-70s under a mostly cloudy sky, with light winds outside of where the storms develop. While most of today's storm activity will likely favor points south of the Snake Plain, it's not out of the question that the Treasure and Magic Valleys could hear some rumbles of thunder and experience outflow winds up to 40mph, so just be 'weather aware' if you're headed out to enjoy the nice mild temperatures.

A mostly sunny but windy Thursday is on tap as the first - and mostly dry - cold front comes through tonight, with northwest winds of 30-40mph expected Thursday across the I-84 corridor. By Thursday afternoon, the high terrain of eastern Oregon and central Idaho will likely start seeing rain and very high-elevation snow as the next cold front approaches, then rain showers look likely early Friday morning across the Boise area as the secondary front moves through.

The associated pool of cool air behind Friday's front will drop temperatures back down into the low 60s  Friday with a brisk wind, along with lingering spotty showers to wrap up the work week. The weekend carries a slim chance of some pop-up showers but pretty nice overall, with mid- to upper 60s expected Saturday and Sunday under partly cloudy skies, though northwest winds will likely persist through the weekend.
