BOISE, Idaho — Our streak of sunny and pleasant spring weather continues Tuesday, which is great news for the thousands of local kids who will get to enjoy Spring Break this week! Temperatures for this first official day of astronomical spring will mirror Monday's, with temps capping around 70° across the entire Treasure Valley this afternoon, low 60s in the Magic Valley, and mid-50s in the mountains. Sunshine will be plentiful and winds remain light, a perfect day to get out and about or even get the grill going in the backyard.
On Wednesday, the current streak of mild temperatures reaches its peak, even as the ridge of high pressure that's been bringing us our warm weather starts to erode and shift eastward. Temperatures will inch up a couple of degrees tomorrow as southwesterly flow ramps up ahead of an approaching shortwave system from the west. That system will send a shot of cooler air our way on Thursday, knocking temperatures back down into the 60s and ushering in some breezy winds.
A few showers are expected to fire up in the mountains late Wednesday into Thursday as that system rolls through, and then a secondary - and stronger - shot of cool air will send precipitation across the area by late Friday evening into Saturday morning. Splash-and-dash rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are on tap for the valleys Saturday, mixed in with sunshine at times, and light snow will fall above 5,000' in Idaho's central mountains. A chilly wind will blow on Saturday as well behind the departing cold front.
On Sunday, isolated rain showers will come and go, with temperatures dropping into the low 50s in Boise by the end of the weekend and into early next week.
