Two-vehicle semi-truck collision near Riggins leaves one dead, one hospitalized

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday on US-95.

RIGGINS, Idaho — Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatality collision that occurred southbound on US-95 near milepost 195 in Riggins, Idaho County, Idaho. The crash killed one driver and put the other in the hospital.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 43-year-old Jeffrey Barks of Saint Clair, Michigan was driving north on US-95 in a Ford truck with a 15-foot trailer. 33-year-old Jonathan Hunter of Middleton was driving south on US-95 when the Ford crossed left of center, causing the two vehicles to collide.

Barks was taken to St. Luke's Medical Center in McCall and was pronounced dead after arrival. Hunter was transported to Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville. His condition is not known at this time.

Both men were wearing their seatbelts, according to police. Lanes were blocked for about six hours.

This investigation is ongoing.
