NAMPA - Stormy weather in the forecast has prompted transportation officials to delay plans to pave Interstate 84 in Canyon County this weekend.

The Idaho Transportation Department said the paving would resume the weekend of June 16-19.

The lane reductions are part of ITD's work to repave I-84 between Nampa and Caldwell. The department scheduled the majority of the construction during four weekends in June to keep the interstate open during the weekday commute.

This weekend's forecast calls for major cooldown, with high's in the 60s and the possibility of rain throughout the weekend. Thunderstorms are also possible.

ITD accelerated the work schedule after harsh winter weather caused the pavement to deteriorate more quickly than expected.

Officials say the project will prolong the pavement life until the road can be widened.
