PYEONGCHANG --The U.S. women's hockey team continues to struggle against Team Canada at the Olympics.
The Americans lost to the Canadians, 2-1, on Wednesday, in a physical game that had little to nothing at stake.
Before the puck even dropped, both countries had already clinched quarterfinal byes and secured spots in the semifinals. The level of chippiness that was displayed at the Kwandong Hockey Centre though, gave the game a gold medal matchup type feel.
Sun Valley's Hilary Knight finished with four shots on goal, saw 19:04 of ice time, and her line scored the lone goal of the game for Team USA.
Knight had a chance at the equalizer with just over a minute to go, however, Canadian goalie Genevieve Lacasse denied the three-time Olympian of her first goal at the 2018 Winter Games.
Lacasse was fantastic in the net all night. The Americans put 45 shots on goal on Wednesday, and Lacasee turned away 44 of them.
The loss if the fifth straight for Team USA against Team Canada in the Olympics. The Americans have not beaten the Canadians since knocking them off in the goal medal game back in 1998.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of women's hockey at the Olympics. Team USA and Team Canada have met in four of the five all-time goal medal games, and they appear on a collision course to meet again this year.
Team USA now awaits the winner of Finland and Sweden in the semifinals.
