The 2017 Idaho Regatta - an annual boat racing event scheduled for next weekend in Burley - is canceled because of high water on the Snake River.

Water has breached over retaining walls on some portions of the race course.

The sheriffs of Minidoka and Cassia County decided to cancel the regatta's marine event permits out of concern for the safety of the race boat drivers, rescue teams and property owners along the race course.

A message posted on the Idaho Regatta website says that the regatta committee is looking at the possibility of rescheduling the event in September.
