Hawks lose first game

BOISE -- The Hawks couldn't get their bats going late, and the result was a 5-2 loss to Hillsboro. Boise lost Game 1 in the best-of-three South Divisional series.

The Hops, led by a 3-for-4 performance by Trevor Ratliff. They now look to close out the series in Hillsboro and advance to the Northwest League Championship Series.

Hillsboro got on the board in the first inning when Ratliff doubled to start the game and scored on a Boise throwing error. The Hawks evened the game at 1-1 on an Alex Tomasovich home run, his first professional homer. Boise took the lead in the fourth when Danny Canela scored on a Hillsboro throwing error.

But the 2-1 lead did not hold up as the Hops scored two in the sixth inning. The Hillsboro bullpen took over from there, retiring 12 Boise batters in a row, including six strikeouts, to secure the Game 1 win.

Game 2 will be held Wednesday night in Hillsboro, with first pitch set for 8:05 p.m.
