Some exciting news for Zoo Boise!
Today the zoo celebrated its successful $8.9 million fundraising campaign for "Zoo with a New View."
With the funding, Zoo Boise will build a new exhibit highlighting its work to restore wildlife in Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park.
Today’s event was held at the Boise Depot by Mayor Dave Bieter and philanthropist Greg Carr, who is leading the restoration project.
"The idea that the people of this city stepped up, raised $9 million to create an exhibit that will greater explain wildlife and ecosystems in Africa, I never would have imagined this, it's just beyond belief," said Carr.
Construction is set to begin in March 2018 and the exhibit is expected to open in the summer of 2019.
