JEROME -- A woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a car while walking on the highway in Jerome Monday evening.

According to Idaho State Police, the collision happened at about 8:35 p.m. on Highway 25, just east of Jerome High School.

Troopers say the pedestrian, 26-year-old Consuelo Bach of Jerome, was in the eastbound lane when she was hit by a Chevy Impala driven by 28-year-old Kylie Hemmert of Twin Falls. Hemmert was driving east when she crashed into Bach, police say.

Bach was airlifted to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. A hospital spokesman said she was listed in critical condition Tuesday morning.

Hemmert, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the collision.

Highway 25 was blocked in both directions for about two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
