BOISE - Crew members from the USS Boise visited four elementary schools in the Boise School District on Monday.
The USS Boise is a nuclear-powered, Los Angeles-class attack submarine stationed out of Virginia.
Navy Cdr. Christopher Osborn was among the officers and crew members who visited school in Boise on Monday. He told students that it is important to study science and engineering if they hope to one day become a crew member on a Navy submarine.
Osborn added that talking with children always surprises him.
"I'll tell ya, some of the toughest questions come from the children, that's for sure," he said. "It's definitely interesting because you go in and you have different exposure to what submarines are about, so there are generally some surprises when you talk submarines with children. There are no windows on board of submarines and it's hard for them to visualize kind of what submarines are about, so we really try hard."
The crew visited Adams, Whittier, Hawthorne, and Morley Nelson elementary schools.
