BOISE - A lot of people got up early, laced up their running shoes, and headed to downtown Boise on Thanksgiving morning for an event that helps the hungry and homeless.

It's also a chance to wear a turkey hat in public.

We're talking about the annual Turkey Day 5K.

Along with raising cash and food for the Boise Rescue Mission, the fun run has become a tradition that brings families and friends together.

"It sort of justifies everything you're going to do later - you know, eating and drinking and laying around watching TV," participant Tracy Rowe said.

KTVB was among the event sponsors.
