Construction worker injured by auger in Caldwell

Emergency crews used ropes and basket to retrieve him from pit.

CALDWELL, Idaho — A construction worker was injured in an industrial accident in Caldwell Monday afternoon.

According to the Caldwell Fire Department, the man was operating a large auger in a pit near the intersection of Highway 20/26 and Middleton Road when the equipment kicked back, crushing him between the pit box and auger.

The man appeared to have internal and pelvic injuries but was conscious while rescuers hoisted him out of the pit using ropes and a basket attached to Nampa Fire Department's ladder truck.

The man was taken to a Boise hospital by air ambulance.

The injured man's name has not been released, and authorities have not said what company he was working for when the accident happened.

Canyon County Sheriff deputies helped direct traffic on Highway 20/26 which was completely blocked in both directions while emergency crews worked in the area. The road reopened before the evening commute.
