The Idaho Foodbank is helping keep kids fed this summer.
They along with other local organizations launched the 19th annual Picnic in the Park summer feeding program today at Winstead Park in Boise.
It’s estimated that about 76,000 children in Idaho don't have access to affordable, nutritious food.
The goal of the program is to provide more than 51,000 free meals to food-insecure children one to 18 years old who live in the Boise area.
“It's open to anyone who is in need,” said Karen Vauk, Idaho Foodbank CEO. “If children need a lunch they can simply come to a park and receive that lunch, and if adults are also wanting to get a lunch it will be just a nominal charge for that.”
Winstead Park is just one of the locations where the program serves children.
They have dozens of locations set up around Boise and provide free meals 5 days a week, Monday through Friday during the lunch hour.
