7Cares Idaho Shares: Jubilee House

Christian needed help, alcohol had taken control of her life and driven away her husband.

Christian needed help, alcohol had taken control of her life and driven away her husband.

"I was pretty much at the end of my rope with alcoholism," she said. “I really just thought that it was the end that was the bottom for me."

Christian ended up in a detox program, but she knew when she was got out alcohol would still be there. Christian was determined to make a change. She found the Jubilee House in Twin Falls, a recovery program designed for women struggling with addiction.

Jubilee House Community and Donor Engagement Coordinator Barbie Danson says helping women like Christian is something she takes great pride in.

"We teach people how to take care of themselves and how to be healthy themselves, both physically, spiritually and mentally," said Danson.

Danson says without the support of the community during 7Cares Idaho Shares it would be hard to help these women get back on their feet.

"Because someone cared enough to donate, that they were able to go through the program at absolutely no charge and not worry about the whole financial aspect, and just worry about their recovery and taking care of themselves," said Danson.

The women go through a challenging 12-month program and Danson admits it isn't easy.

"People think oh yeah we're just housing them and they hang here, but they are not. They are up at 8:30 in the morning cleaning and getting ready and then they have classes, there are various different classes that they take," said Danson.

Christian says she wouldn't have it any other way.

"I needed to learn how to live life without alcohol without choosing to pick something up to cope," said Christian.

Now, she is excited to graduate the Jubilee House and get back on her feet.

"I want to be able to give back to the community and just get out there and I’m just very excited to do that,” said Christian.
