NAMPA -- A dedication ceremony took place at the Lighthouse Rescue Mission in Nampa on Saturday for the Veterans Transitional Living Program dorm.
The dorm will be named in memory of a Caldwell man, Sergeant Octavio Herrera, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2013 while serving with the 101st Airborne Division.
Mission CEO Bill Roscoe said, "We want to offer help, compassion and the life skills necessary for our veterans to become independent again. Sgt. Herrera's life reflected that same desire to see people move up into a better place."
The veterans program of the rescue mission is designed to assist homeless veterans by helping them get back on track with an independent lifestyle.
