BOISE -- A semi driver told police he nodded off at the wheel early Wednesday morning just before his truck tipped over, blocking I-84.

The crash happened at 5 a.m. east of Boise at near the Blacks Creek Rest Area, at about mile marker 62.

According to Idaho State Police, 36-year-old John Vazquez of Twin Falls was headed east in a Freightliner when he fell asleep and drifted off the left side of the road.

Vazquez woke up and overcorrected, causing the semi to overturn and block both eastbound lanes.

The driver was taken to St. Luke's Medical Center in Boise for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt, police say.

Traffic moved slowly past the wreck using the left shoulder, then left lane until it was cleared.

By 7 a.m., wrecker crews has gotten the truck upright and out of the way of traffic. Both lanes are now back open.

The wreck remains under investigation.
