BOISE - Just in time for summer, one of Zoo Boise's most popular exhibits is back. Butterflies in Bloom opened on Thursday and will be available through Labor Day.
Included with zoo admission, the exhibit is a flower-filled greenhouse that visitors can walk through as hundreds of colorful butterflies flutter around them.
The butterflies are shipped to the zoo weekly from Costa Rica.
"[A zoo keeper] will hang up the pupa on these racks and mist them, and they they will emerge from the chyrsalis form and he lets them right out into the exhibit here every week," said Liz Littman, Zoo Boise assistant director. "So we have around 40 different species at a time, and the number of butterflies we have will go up throughout the summer."
The zoo's summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Labor Day. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors age 62 or older, $7 for children ages 3-11, and free for children age 2 and younger.
