DEARY, Idaho – The Idaho State Police released the identity of a woman who died Saturday after the car she was driving hit a patch of hail.

Christine Winter, 47, was driving westbound on State Highway 8 around 3:11 p.m. when she hit a patch of hail that was covering the road. Winter was unable to regain control of the car, crossing the center line before hitting a patch of loose dirt and then flipping and hitting a tree.

Winter and her passenger were both trapped inside the car, suspended by their seatbelts. Emergency crews on scene had to flip the car back over to get them out.

Both Winter and her passenger were taken to the hospital where Winter later died.

The passenger was admitted for her injuries. Her current condition is unknown.
