Boise duplex damaged after fire breaks out in bedroom

Firefighters saw flames coming from the roof when they arrived on scene.

BOISE, Idaho — Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire at a Boise duplex Wednesday evening.

The fire was reported just before 5:30 p.m. on North 32nd Street, near the intersection with West Dewey Avenue.

An Ada County dispatcher said crews arrived to find an active fire, but managed to put the flames out within about 30 minutes.

Everyone made it safely out of both units, and there were no injuries reported.

According to firefighters on scene, one unit of the duplex was damaged, while the other was unaffected.

Boise Fire Battalion Chief Tom Moore told KTVB that when crews first arrived on scene, they saw flames coming from the roof of the home.

So far, there is no word on what caused the fire, but investigators say it started in the back bedroom of the home.

The displaced residents were being assisted by the Boise Fire Burnout Fund.

"They do have a place to stay tonight," Moore said. "So our Burnout Fund will help them with other needs - clothing needs, food, even things that people don't think about, like a toothbrush that probably smells like smoke now and can't be used. It's little things like that."

This was at least the second structure fire that Boise Fire responded to on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, crews put out a fire that destroyed a shed and heavily damaged a home.
