FILER, Idaho -- A young woman was killed when her pickup was hit by a semi truck near Filer Sunday evening.

Idaho State Police say the crash happened at 7:13 p.m. at the intersection of US 93 and 3800 North.

Cassidee Kippes, 23, of Buhl was headed west on 3800 North in a Chevrolet S10 when she failed to stop at the stop sign, police say. Kippes continued into the intersection, where her pickup was struck by a northbound semi truck.

The impact knocked Kippes' vehicle onto the south shoulder. The semi, driven by 69-year-old George Acosta of Sacremento, California, overturned and burst into flames.

Kippes died from her injuries at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt, police say.

Acosta, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls. His current condition is unknown.

The intersection was blocked through the night as police investigated, but reopened at about 7 a.m. Monday.
