BOISE - The Idaho Capitol Christmas Tree is now aglow. A big crowd came out to watch the lighting Monday night on the Statehouse steps.

The 45-foot tree is strung with around 12,000 lights. Many families got up close to the Blue Spruce to take pictures.

One Boise mother says she bundled up her whole family to get into the Christmas spirit.

"It's a community thing pulling everyone together," said Kenna Fahrenwald, who lives in Boise. "Fun times in all the craziness we have going on."

The celebration included a lot of cheerful singing, including the Andrus Ambassador Honor Choir, Opera Idaho and the 25th Army Band.

The Idaho Statehouse Christmas Tree was donated by Zelma Foster in Boise's East End.

Foster says since the tree had gotten so big it was nice to get rid of if, and all for a good cause.
