MCCALL -- Valley County Commissioners voted unanimously to ban alcohol in the North Beach Unit of Ponderosa State Park - a place that people from all over Idaho come to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The ordinance prohibits the use of alcohol on North Beach for July 3, 4 and 5 indefinitely.

Residents and government officials say the shores of Payette Lake had gotten a little out of control with too many people and too much partying.

The City of McCall previously voted to ban alcohol in city parks surrounding Payette Lake, but it's up to Valley County to enforce the ban.

One of the main reasons for the prohibition is so people can enjoy 4th of July festivities like fireworks and live music, instead of underage drinking and chaotic crowds. City officials say they want to start promoting a more family-friendly environment.

The ordinance will go into effect immediately.
