RIGBY, Idaho -- One man was hurt Tuesday morning when a collision sent his pickup crashing nose-first into a canal full of water.

The wreck happened at 7:30 a.m. near the eastern Idaho town of Rigby.

According to Idaho State Police, 57-year-old Israel Trejo Torres of Rexburg was driving north on Yellowstone Highway when he failed to stop at a stopsign.

Torres' vehicle crashed into a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Jace Weekes of Rigby, who was headed west on 4300 E. The impact forced Weekes' vehicle into a canal on the north side of the road.

Although the pickup went over the embankment and into the water, it did not become fully submerged in the canal. Weekes was taken by private vehicle to Madison Memorial in Rexburg.

Troopers say Torres was wearing a seatbelt, but Weekes was not. Idaho State Police wrote in a Twitter post that the crash should serve as a reminder to drivers to pay attention on the road.
