Boise Firefighters Local 149 kicked off its annual Toy Brigade Saturday.

The firefighters have been holding the toy drive for eight years now, collecting new, unwrapped toys for children who could use a little something extra to smile about this Christmas.

Firefighters will bring the toys to the Ronald McDonald House, St. Luke's, Saint Alphonsus and the City Light women's and children's shelter.

Firefighters say it's amazing to spread so much cheer.

"I saw a kid the other day, and he was still riding the skateboard I gave him last year and he was, like, 'you remember me?'That was pretty awesome," Boise firefighter Craig Martin said.

Saturday's collection took place at the Empire Building in downtown Boise.

If you would like to donate a toy, you can drop one off at any Boise Fire Dept. station or at Boise City Hall.
